A great conclusion to an effective book! Heskett does an outstanding job in this chapter of explaining why design is so important to us. He mentions, on page 133, that America, which constitutes approximately 3 percent of the earth’s population is using 25 percent of the world’s available resources. Later in the chapter he explains that design is a product of, usually, independent, individualized creativity. This illustrates how one designer (or person) can effectively change the entire course of human history based upon design. This statement is extemely profound and accurate. He maintains that design isn’t a simple act of activity, but rather an expression by societies of what’s important and how to sustain life. Overall, I would give this book a 7 out of 10. I was a little skeptical at first, but he has taken design and appropriated it in all walks/aspects of life.
